DESCRIPTION:Virtual Co-Occurring Disorder (COD) Series: Nicotine/Tobacco Products and COD\nJoin us for a new workshop learning series on the challenges facing individuals struggling with COD. This series will explore how substances of abuse and mental health concerns impact each other. Each session will offer community providers a deeper understanding of providing integrated care to support and foster overall all health and well-being. \nThis 90-minute workshop examines the bidirectional relationship between nicotine use and mental health conditions. Participants will explore current research showing how individuals with mental health disorders\, such as depression\, anxiety\, and schizophrenia\, have higher rates of nicotine dependence. The session will also detail how nicotine addiction can worsen psychiatric symptoms and interfere with psychotropic medications. Clinicians will gain practical\, evidence-based strategies for assessing\, counseling\, and providing integrated tobacco cessation treatment for patients with COD. \nWho Should Attend: This event is sponsored by the adult mental health block grant and is intended for persons who serve adults only struggling with severe mental illness and/or COD receiving services that are community-based/outpatient setting (does not include substance use disorder (SUD) providers\, inpatient\, or residential treatment\, parents of children who are primary recipients) that is funded by a community mental health service provider (CMHSP) or is a contractor of a CMHSP in the state of Michigan. It contains content appropriate for CEOs\, COOs\, clinical directors\, supervisors\, case managers\, support coordinators\, therapists\, crisis workers\, and nurses. Hours can count toward Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) annual refresher. \nThe Michigan Department of Health and Human Services\, through the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan has provided funding for this initiative through the Federal Community Mental Health Block Grant.

DESCRIPTION:Prevention Ethics Training of Trainers-Virtual\nThis virtual training of trainers will prepare experienced substance misuse prevention trainers to deliver the 6-hour Foundations in Prevention Ethics course. Participation in the training of trainers includes a 5-hour interactive Zoom session plus approximately 2 hours of pre-training homework assignments. \nParticipant Eligibility \nCriteria for eligible participants include: \n\nAbility to participate in the full 5-hour Zoom session\nAbility to complete and submit via a Google document the pre-training homework assignments (approximately 2 hours of work)\nCommits to conducting at least two Foundations in Prevention Ethics courses within the next year independently and with other prevention ethics trainers\nSuccessfully completed a Foundation in Prevention Ethics course\nHas worked in the substance misuse prevention field for at least 3 years\nHas strong training and facilitation skills and experience that can be applied to conducting the ethics in prevention courses with fidelity upon completion of the training of trainers\nWorks in the Great Lakes region (IL\, IN\, MI\, MN\, OH\, WI) – Those outside the region will be placed on a waitlist and accepted if space is available\n\nCourse Structure \n\nOne\, 5-hour Zoom session on September 3 from 11-4 EST with a 30-minute mid-session break and two breaks (total of 4 learning hours)\nTwo hours of required pre-training homework assignments\n\nApplication\nClick on the link to complete the application form.
