Letter From the Director
As we transition from the bustling winter months into the promise of spring (I am ready for the steady warmer days that we have had small tastes of in recent weeks), I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our recent accomplishments and the exciting path ahead. The past few months have been incredibly busy for our team, with planning a whirlwind of webinars, trainings, and conferences keeping us engaged and energized. Despite the hectic pace, there are no signs of slowing down as we gear up for an array of activities planned for April and the summer months. We’re diligently wrapping up old initiatives while eagerly launching new ones, all in line with our mission to cultivate healthy communities across Michigan.
I’m thrilled to announce the release of our annual report for FY23, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community. This report not only highlights our achievements but also serves as a roadmap as we forge ahead into FY24. Already, we’ve set ambitious goals for the year ahead, building upon the successes of the past and embracing new opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we’ll continue to bridge the gap between research and practice, utilizing science-based strategies to prevent substance misuse and promote well-being in our communities.
Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to the cause of substance misuse prevention. We are excited to embark on this journey with you as we embrace the spirit of spring and the promise of a brighter, healthier future for all.
Warmly, Louise Montag, Executive Director
Great news! Coalition Support & Community Change is continuing with different funding.
- Our contracts with 50 sub-award recipients ended March 5th. As of Feb 29th, we distributed over $1,185,742 this fiscal year to community coalitions. Final reports are being composed as an update to the summary report from Project Year One. Many exit survey responses indicate “great!” “magnificent job,” “excellent timely TA” while 5-6 respondents also want staff to be more open to dialogue, more empowering, know more about me, and be more responsive.
- Great feedback from C3 program participants has led to the development of monthly and quarterly networking opportunities. We would love to hear more about your work and be able to empower you to keep building healthier communities around the great state of Michigan. Visit the calendar of events.
- The support of Maner Costerisan staff Kelly Sears has been vital to the success of this program, as have technical assistance provider agreements with Joel Hoepfner and others. Thank you all!

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month. To raise awareness about alcohol-related harms and the importance of alcohol policy safeguards, the Northwest PTTC has launched the Alcohol Awareness Toolkit: #ProofIsInTheNumbers.
The Alcohol Awareness Toolkit seeks to do the following during the month of April:
- Raise awareness about alcohol-related harms and the importance of strong alcohol policies using memes, and
- Encourage engagement from prevention and public health stakeholders to strategically educate and inform decision makers about effective alcohol policies by providing easy-to-personalize, templated opinion editorials, letters to legislators and proclamations.
The Northwest PTTC is excited to bring these resources to communities in Region 10 and throughout the rest of the PTTC Network. We encourage our prevention partners to use the materials to raise awareness around the weekly themes to observe April as National Alcohol Awareness Month.

According to the CDC, there were over 107,000 fatal overdoses in the U.S. in 2021. This figure is staggering. Each number represents a unique life that was lost in the addiction crisis. It also raises an important question: who is being most affected by this epidemic?
