Health & Poison Related Risks Related to Substance Use: “Need to Know” Program for Young Adults

Description: The Michigan Poison & Drug Information Center’s “Need to Know”
(NTK) Program provides vital information on the effects of substance misuse among
young adults, who report the highest cases of intentional misuse to poison centers.
Recent trends include cannabis, nicotine-containing products, opioids, medication
misuse, and unregulated product misuse. To combat these issues, we monitor
trends to help raise awareness and develop prevention strategies. This evidence based initiative incorporates social and emotional learning (SEL) principles to
reduce substance misuse and the risk of recurrence among young adults.
