This introductory session provides participants with a foundational understanding of environmental strategies and how they influence behavior across communities. Participants will explore the differences between individualized and shared environments, examine how norms, availability, and regulations shape behavior, and learn the core components of science‑based environmental change strategies. Through guided instruction and applied examples, participants will gain the knowledge needed to begin planning and implementing effective environmental approaches in various settings.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the difference between individualized and shared environments and how each contributes to behavior change.
  2. Explain how norms, availability, and regulations influence community behavior across various settings.
  3. Define science‑based environmental strategies and summarize the essential components of planning and implementing environmental approaches.
